Mona Lisa Paper
Is It Her Twin or Sister? A workmanship authority in 1913 made a revelation that has bewildered numerous students of history for quite a while. Enormous Blaker, an English craftsmanship gatherer found the Isleworth Mona Lisa presently before World War I. The Isleworth Mona Lisa is a painting of, what seems to be, a youthful Mona Lisa. This canvas has been distinguished as a Leonardo da Vinci painting, however a few history specialists accept this can't be valid. With certain distinctions in the canvases they trust it might have been another little craftsman at the time attempting to duplicate da Vinci. The Isleworth painting is appeared to be with a worldwide consortium while the first work of art is kept in Paris' Louver Museum. The acclaimed lady is this image is Lisa del Giocondo. Lisa was from Florence and Tuscany, Italy. She wedded a material and silk dealer in her adolescent years. Lisa was conceived in Florence on June fifteenth, 1479, many feel that she was conceived on a prov incial property that is however to have been possessed by the family. Lisa had five kids with the trader named Piero, Camilla, Andrea, Giocondo, and Marietta.Lisa's significant other, Francesco di Bartilomeo di Zanobi del Giocondo, expanded her economic wellbeing since he was from a white collar class family, while Lisa was from a lower class with no share from her family. Francesco was a craftsmanship sweetheart and dispatched da Vinci for a picture of his significant other. ââ¬Å"He is thought to have dispatched Lisa's representation to praise trouble Andrea del Sarto's introduction to the world and the acquisition of the family's home. â⬠(http://en. wikipedia. organization/wiki/Lisa_del_Giocondo#Mona_Lisa) In the work of art in the Louver, Lisa is ââ¬Å"portrayed as an unwavering spouse through signal her correct hand rests over her left. â⬠(http://en. ikipedia. organization/wiki/Lisa_del_Giocondo#Mona_Lisa) Da Vinci additionally spoke to Lisa in high design with di m dress that would have originated from Spain. This would have not spoken to Lisa in her family since she would not have had the option to bear the cost of these sort of apparel with her family's salary. Numerous students of history have said that Lisa is wearing dull garments since she would be grieving the passing of her first girl, which, from multiple points of view, isn't right. The artistic creation set aside da Vinci some effort to complete in light of the fact that he got cash for the work of art The Battle of Anghian, which was offering more cash than the picture of Lisa. Some history specialists have thought about when da Vinci completed the canvas since he brought it around with him all through his later life in France. The rough approximation is around 1516 is when da Vinci at last completed the Mona Lisa. The Isleworth Mona Lisa is the thing that is by all accounts a more youthful Lisa, but since we don't have genuine evidence, that is just a suspicion. Students of histo ry can't give a careful date concerning which this work of art was begun or even completed in light of the fact that they found the artwork in was found with a respectable family. After Blaker bought the canvas it was moved to Isleworth, England, where the name originated from. While the primary World War was going on, the Isleworth painting was moved to America for protecting. ââ¬Å"The Portrait in the long run advanced back to Europe, where is was examined in Italy before being sent to the Swiss bank vault for care. â⬠(http://abcnews. go. com/websites/features/2012/09/second-mona-lisa-uncovered for-first-time-in-quite a while/) Since that timespan the Mona Lisa Foundation has taken a shot at the work of art to demonstrate it's genuineness and if da Vinci truly painted this representation. pic] The contrasts between these two artistic creations are not critical ones, yet they are large enough that some may accept this can't be a genuine da Vinci painting. The Isleworth is pai nted on canvas while the Louver Mona Lisa was painted on wood. The Isleworth additionally has a plain foundation and segments on either side of the figure, yet the Louver painting is by all accounts a similar foundation with significantly more subtleties included and no segments. The measures of these two artistic creation likewise is making students of history scratch their heads on the grounds that the Louver painting is smaller. pic] However there are shockingly numerous likenesses between the two canvases that have caused students of history and researchers to accept that it needed to have been painted by a similar individual. ââ¬Å"It strikes us that with the goal for that to be so precise, so fastidiously accurate, just the individual who did one did the otherâ⬠¦ â⬠said workmanship antiquarian and Mona Lisa Foundation part Stanley Feldman. (http://abcnews. go. com/online journals/features/2012/09/second-mona-lisa-uncovered for-first-time-in-quite a while/) The dress in the two works of art is by all accounts of a similar high Spanish fashion. The present shows that Lisa was a faithful spouse with her left hand over her right, this posture is that equivalent in the two canvases. It took craftsmanship antiquarians 35 years to finish up their tests on both Mona Lisa artistic creations. The Mona Lisa Foundation performed numerous investigations looking at the two. First the establishment set the work of art one next to the other and found that Lisa in the Isleworth painting is littler than she is in the Louver painting. ââ¬Å"The basic realistic delineations exhibit that the figure in the ââ¬ËLouvre Version' is around 10% bigger than the figure in the ââ¬ËEarlier Version'â⬠(http://monalisa. rg/2012/09/10/leonardos-covered up method/) The highlights of Lisa in both of these artworks are actually the equivalent; with same places that are totally adjusted. ââ¬Å"They are drastically various pieces, and the method of extent and related ge ometric estimations utilized, focuses to the two pictures having been painted by a similar craftsman; somebody personally acquainted with both, and who had the aim to make two distinct artworks of the equivalent subjectâ⬠(http://monalisa. organization/2012/09/10/leonardos-covered up method/)With these two works of art being so frightfully comparable, yet in addition having some conspicuous contrasts, craftsmanship history specialists have slobbered over these two compositions. Everyone knowing the celebrated Mona Lisa painting in the Louver, however holding off on knowing until this year that there was another painting of Lisa del Giocondo, and prior composition. A few history specialists accept that this paint couldn't have been finished by the popular da Vinci on the grounds that there were such a large number of duplicates of the first Mona Lisa, however without question that Mona Lisa Foundation has refuted them. More than 35 years of test have demonstrated them that the tw o artistic creations were really done by da Vinci.

Hypothetical Background This examination is moored by these two speculations; Banduraââ¬â¢s Social Cognitive Theory and Vygotskyââ¬â¢s Social Constructivist Theory. Banduraââ¬â¢s Social Cognitive Theory is made out of four procedures of objective acknowledgment: self-perception, self-assessment, self-response and self-adequacy. These parts are interrelated, each affecting inspiration and objective fulfillment (Redmond, 2010). Self-observationââ¬Observing oneself can educate and propel. It very well may be utilized to evaluate oneââ¬â¢s advancement toward objective fulfillment just as spur conduct changes. There are two significant components with respect to self-perception: consistency and closeness. Normality implies the conduct ought to be consistently watched, though closeness implies the conduct ought to be watched while it happens, or soon after. Alone, self-perception is deficient on the grounds that inspiration relies upon oneââ¬â¢s desires for results and adequacy (Zimmerman and Schunk, 2001). Self-evaluationâ⬠Self-assessment contrasts an individualââ¬â¢s current execution and an ideal exhibition or objective. It is influenced by the norms set and the significance of the objectives. Objectives must be explicit and significant; in this way, objectives, for example, ââ¬Å"do your bestâ⬠are dubious and won't inspire. Schunk and Zimmerman (1994) express that ââ¬Å"specific objectives indicate the measure of exertion required for progress and lift self-viability since progress is anything but difficult to gauge.â⬠If one has little respect for his objective he won't assess execution. There are two sorts of self-assessment guidelines: total and regulating. For instance, an evaluating scale would be a case of a fixed or supreme norm. A social correlation, for example, assessing oneââ¬â¢s conduct or execution against others is a case of a regulating standardà (Zimmerman &Schunk, 2001). Individuals gain fulfillment when they accomplish objectives that they esteem. At the point when people accomplish these esteemed objectives, they are bound to keep on applying an elevated level of exertion, since unacceptable execution will no longer give fulfillment (Bandura, 1989). Self-reactionâ⬠Reactions to oneââ¬â¢s execution can be rousing. In the event that the advancement made is considered satisfactory, at that point one will have a sentiment of self-viability with respect to proceeding, and will be spurred towards the accomplishment of their objective. A negative self-assessment may likewise be propelling in that one may want to work more diligently given that they believe the objective to be significant. Self-response likewise permits an individual to rethink their objectives related to their accomplishments (Bandura, 1989). On the off chance that an individual has accomplished an objective, they are probably going to reexamine and increase the expectation (objective); while, if an individual has not accomplished the objective, they are probably going to rethink and lower the norm (objective) to a reachable objective. Self-efficacyâ⬠Oneââ¬â¢s faith in the probability of objective culmination can be inspiring in itself (Van der Bijl&Shortridge-Baggett, 2002). ââ¬Å"Self-adequacy alludes to peopleââ¬â¢s decisions about their ability to perform specific errands. Errand related self-viability expands the exertion and industriousness towards testing undertakings; along these lines, improving the probability that they will be completedâ⬠(Barling and Beattie, 1983, as refered to in Axtell and Parker, 2003, p. 114). Vygotsky (as refered to by Whitcomb, 2002) stresses that subjective improvement is a social action. ââ¬Å"Every work in the childââ¬â¢s social improvement shows up twice: first, on the social level, and later, on the individual level; first, between individuals (interpsychological) and afterward inside the youngster (intrapsychological).â⬠Adolescents build up their own considerations and mentalities through social connection and correspondence with peers and different citizenry. (Rogoff, et al, 2007). They can likewise learn by watching the exercises and associations of others in a social setting. Juvenile understudies must approach an increasingly learned individual or people with whom they can convey and interface socially. Understanding this will help keep educators mindful of exactly how important their cooperations and attitudesâ are to an understudy, and how what they state and do can impact an understudy. Contingent upon the social setting of the study hall, an understudy may profit by having the option to collaborate uninhibitedly and socially with different understudies as they learn. The educator might be socially less agreeable in the homeroom setting. A multi year learn at Harvard (Crouch, and Mazur, 2001) indicated that most understudies gain more from bunch learning exercises than they do concentrating alone or tuning in to the educator administer data. At the point when understudies are required to disclose their plans to their friends in a discourse, as opposed to discuss whatever ââ¬Å"correctâ⬠clarification the instructor has let them know, they all the more completely draw in their psyches, utilizing their own social devices and opening their very own convictions to inevitable a djustment. Vygotskyââ¬â¢s significant idea express that understudies learn most successfully when they are given assignments which are excessively hard for a person to achieve alone however can be aced through social participation, is called educating in the studentsââ¬â¢ Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). What he implies is that if the exercises and assignments given to an understudy are too far off ââ¬Å"proximalâ⬠to what the understudy finds testing, at that point the understudy won't create. Paltry activities result in for the most part weariness and almost no psychological turn of events. On the opposite finish of the range, if an assignment is unreasonably hard for understudies, in any event, when they can cooperate, at that point they will essentially come up short at it and furthermore accomplish little turn of events. So there is an ideal zone, or ââ¬Å"magic middleâ⬠, where understudies are tested, however can participate socially to build their authority of the un dertaking. Such an undertaking is supposed to be inside the ZPD. The idea of a ZPD can likewise be applied to the manner in which youths think and create. Most young people need to form into grown-ups and join grown-up society, pe

Alice Walker’s The Color Purple: Analysis
Alice Walker's The Color Purple From perusing the concentrate from The Color Purple, the peruser is stunned practically straight away from how the character/storyteller (who for this situation is the creator Alice Walker) is dealt with and raised by her dad. The manner by which the story is told is as letters and a sort of journal routed to god as she is disclosed to ââ¬Å"You better not tell anyone yet god it'll execute your mammyâ⬠. The peruser can nearly detect this was composed and was never expected to be perused or seen by any other person, it feels individual and private to the little youngster just among her and god. The language she utilizes is suitable in the manner that you can envision this multi year old dark young lady who isn't very knowledgeable, talking and composing along these lines. Putting her story across in an informal way pounds home in a way the gravity of the little youngsters situation even more as it converses with an expansive scope of perusers and is justifiable to all. Additionally the language structure with the short and punchy sentences again hits home and catches the eye of the peruser immediately â⬠My mother dead. She bite the dust shouting and cussing. She shout at me. She cuss at me. I'm large. I can't move quick enoughâ⬠. The piece is amazingly emotive and realistic with the pictures it summons upon the psyche of the peruser. You can feel the beatings and torment she endures on a practically regular routine. With this being a genuine story it feels even more genuine to the peruser as you can identify for this poor young lady and the experiences she is faced with, it would be hard for many individuals to relate to her as it is an incredibly brutal and desperate time in her life and perhaps through this work she has possibly helped individuals who are in a comparable circumstance, which shows how solid this piece is in making the character/s. Again you can truly feel for her predicament all through the concentrate it could be contended that composing an individual story is likely simpler than that of a work of fiction, as there is no creative mind required on the grounds that the characters and story are now made. This said with the realistic detail where the writer/character/storyteller puts her story across it shows a quality and lowers the peruser for the manner in which the writer has opened herself to the world. This again gives the entire piece a feeling of realness, which would be more diligently to pass on the off chance that it were a work of simply fiction. The peruser feels and thinks about the character's prosperity immediately from the initial three or four passages as she suffers being assaulted by her dad and the beatings which followed. Alice Walker has made here an amazingly enthusiastic piece by the manner in which she has placed her own story in to words and by utilizing her very own encounters of anguish. She has made a solid character/storyteller, with the goal that any individual who peruses this piece can picture and feel as though we the perusers are god and she is talking exclusively to us.

be inspired by studying (practicing) economic and political development COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog
be inspired by studying (practicing) economic and political development COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog In the Economic and Political Development (EPD) Concentration, second-year students recently returned from their January field travel for the Workshop in Development Practice. Through the workshop â" which is the capstone course for EPD students â" 21 teams of students are working with a diverse range of development organizations in 17 countries. Lamia Bazir and Aura Martinez spent two weeks in Niger with Transparency Internationalâs national chapter. For their project, which is supporting Transparencyâs efforts to involve more women in their anti-corruption activities, they met with women leaders from politics, the judiciary and civil society, as well as engaging with womenâs groups, local authorities and religious leaders in rural areas. Other members of their team will travel in March to Zimbabwe to conduct similar fieldwork with the Transparency chapter there. Also in January, Yigit Canay, Rachana Kumar and Alissa Sevrioukova traveled to Cambodia to work with their client, Open Development Cambodia, which is the only open data platform available in the Mekong Subregion. To help ODC develop a âdonor and development assistanceâ section of their website, the three students meet with the ODC team as well as donors and local NGOs. Other members of the SIPA team will travel back to Cambodia in March to present their proposals to ODC. Meanwhile, Mashael AlShalan, Aliya Shalabekova and Liang Zhao traveled to Kazakhstan to meet with their clients at the National Agency for Technological Development and the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning, as well as other government and private sector stakeholders. These meetings laid the groundwork for the teamâs analysis and recommendations on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Kazakhstan. All of the EPD workshop teams will present the main results of their work during a two-day workshop at SIPA on May 1 and 2. The schedule of presentations will be posted on SIPAâs online events calendar by early April. The presentations will be open to the public, and prospective students are especially welcome to attend.

Reading or Math How to Decode Word Problems on the New SAT
Mathematical Applications on the SAT The College Board emphasizes that the Mathematics section on the new SAT is intended to test especially the mathematical knowledge that will be relevant for a broad range of careersââ¬ânot only the mathy professions like accounting, statistics, or chemistryââ¬âas well as for the needs of daily life. Mathematics for the non-mathematicians, in other words. This shift away from abstract or specialized mathematics towards mathematical applications is evident in the many questions that draw on real-world scenarios to frame their problems, from household finances and personal loans to off-the-cuff grocery-store calculations, simple estimates of productivity, and even computation of the volume of text messages sent and received (the last could be handy for figuring out your cellphone bill!). While there remain more ââ¬Å"traditionalâ⬠math problems testing, for example, parabolic graphs and systems of inequalities, these are now a shrinking portion of the material. In a slightly more abstract way, the shift in emphasis can also be seen in the form that the questions take. Rarely do the mathematical problems that we face in the world come to us in the form of ready-made equations. On the contrary, we have to devise the mathematical equations ourselves by selecting the variables and operations that are appropriate for a particular situation. In most cases, these real-world equations will be embedded in a broader explanatory context that uses ordinary English in addition to, or instead of, the symbolic language of mathematics. This context shows us why we are using mathematics and what problem it will help us solve. When problems that mix mathematics and ordinary language show up on tests, they are usually called ââ¬Å"word problems.â⬠In dealing with such problems, it can be as important to determine the significance of the information youââ¬â¢re given and the meaning of the results as to perform the algebraic or geometric calculations themselves. Itââ¬â¢s not so much math for its own sake, as math for the sake of solving a concrete problem. My goal in this post is to provide a brief introduction to some of the forms that word problems take on the SAT, and how you can start coming to grips with them. Words The simplest word problems (although not always the easiest) are those that are just a mixture of mathematical equations and English statements. Consider the following example: You are given at first two mathematical equations and a chunk of text. In all word problems, the first thing you should do is read the text carefully. Treat the word problem as though it were a passage on the reading section: underline, circle or otherwise mark significant information, which will likely include explanation of variables and a statement of your task. Here, we are first told what the three variables (b, c, x) given in the equations represent: the price per pound of beef is b, of chicken c, and the number of months after July 1st is x. We are then given the problem: ââ¬Å"What was the price per pound of beef when it was equal to the price per pound of chicken?â⬠The next step in tackling these kinds of word problems is to translate the ordinary language into math. The SAT will always give you enough information on word problems to be able to change the English expressions into mathematical expressions. By substituting variables and operations for English expressions, we turn word problems into recognizable algebraic or geometric equations. If we perform this substitution for our question, ââ¬Å"What was the price per pound of beef when it was equal to the price per pound of chicken?â⬠, we come up with, ââ¬Å"What was b when b = c?â⬠The relevance of the two equations given at the beginning of the problem should now pop out. We need to set them equal to each other, determine the value of x, and then plug the value of x back into the equation for b in order to find our answer. This is simple algebra that you can easily handle. Of course, one of the difficulties of word problems is mastering the technique of translating English into math and vice versa. You will know much of it already from your math classes, but this is where practice with SAT sample questions will help you become familiar with the language of the test. Your tutor will also be able to give you some of the basic equivalences. Charts and Tables Some word problems will utilize charts or tables to visually represent information. Take this example: It is useful to adopt a modified strategy for tackling word problems when you have a chart or table at hand. In these cases, do not begin by reading through the preliminary information and by trying to decipher the chart, but instead immediately determine the task. The reason for this is that it will be difficult to evaluate the significance of the information you are provided until you know what to look for. If you know what you need from the table, you can go directly to what is relevant for your purposes. We are told here that we need to find a ââ¬Å"reasonable approximationâ⬠of the number of earthworms 5cm under the surface of earth in the entire plot. Once you have determined your task, go back and read the text that you skipped while going to the task. It may contain important information that will help you understand the variables and presentation of the chart, and it is never safe to ignore it. This problem is a case in point. We learn that the students marked off 10 ââ¬Å"randomly selected,â⬠non-overlapping regions of the field measuring 1m x 1m each. Moreover, we learn that the entire plot is 10m x 10m. This information is vital, for, once we translate the English into math, it allows us to ascertain that the randomly selected regions account for only 10% of the size of the entire plot. (1m x 1m = 1m2; there are ten such plots, thus 10 x 1m2 = 10m2; whereas the plot is 10m x 10m = 100m2; finally, 100m2 /10m2 = 10.) Therefore, we cannot merely sum the values given in the chart to determine our answer, but must rather multiply that figure by 10 in order to find an approximation for the entire field. This little trick is what makes the problem challenging. Finally, look at the chart itself, using the task to guide your eye. We are looking for a ââ¬Å"reasonable approximationâ⬠of the number of earthworms 5cm under the surface of earth in the entire plot. We have already hinted at the answer above: since the preliminary information lets us know that the plots do not overlap and that altogether they are 10% of the total area, we need only find their sum and then multiple by 10. A rough approximation of the number of earthworms in the 10 plots is 1500. Multiplying by 10 we get 15000, which happens to be the correct answer, C. Graphs Lastly, word problems can also incorporate graphs of all sorts. Here is an example: Just as for charts and tables, do not start with the graph, but instead look for the task. In this case, our task is contained in problem #15, which asks what the C-intercept in the graphs represents. From here, we can work our way back to the graph and the other information provided by the problem. Reading the labels for our graph proves to offer almost all of the information that we need to solve our problem. We see that C is the cost renting a boat for h hours. Answer choices B and C are immediately off the table, then, since they deal with numbers of boats and hours, not cost. A and D are better, but a moment of reflection will show that the intercept here must be a single value, not a relationship. A is the correct answer then. D is a potential pitfall for those who read the problem quickly and see the problem ââ¬Å"What does C represent in the graph?â⬠instead of ââ¬Å"What does the C-intercept represent in the graph?â⬠Summing up Word problems can be challenging for a number of reasons, and each one demands a slightly different approach. But if you treat each one as a self-contained reading problem and master the art of translating English into math, you will also master word problems on the SAT mathematics sections.
